BFA 1980, University of Hartford. During that time at the Hartford Art School experimental, conceptual, and performance art was emphasized. Punk rock was the best thing that happened. MFA in Photography 1984, Yale University. There they taught pure, untouched, not cropped, what you see with your eye photography. Nothing but the "truth". Now I continue to photograph what interests me in the real world and I paint what I imagine, combining both of those histories.

I am trained as a sculptor but never limit my work by medium. My designs range in purpose, shape and scale. I primarily create pottery, accessories, functional structures, and hand-painted logos and murals.

I graduated from Southern Connecticut State University with a Dual Baccalaureate: BA in Art History, BS in Sculpture. I was recently recognized in the Mystic Arts Center's Centennial Exhibition as the youngest contemporary local artist.

Europa Is Born - As a firm believer in “doing what you love”, I wandered down a new path in 2007 and founded Europa Photography.

I believe each shoot should feel like you’re getting together with a friend for coffee, a play date with the kids or a summer picnic with family…Relaxed and enjoyable. I relish the days that don't exactly play out as planned. They always seem to produce fresh observations. So “let kids be kids” or “bring on that summer rain” and lets see what unfolds.

Often I find myself singing the Sesame Street song “One of These Things Is Not Like The Other” and you do too or for one day think it may just fit, feel free to come and participate!

Katharine’s Vault is a place where you will be able to find one of a kind up-cycled pieces of furniture and other whimsical creations. This space will also serve for group and private classes. I love to collaborate and will continue to add what is inside The Vault.

Katharine Gates holds a BFA in Painting and Art History from Salve Regina University. History has always been a creative trigger for me. I tend to paint scenes without modern elements, where my mind can wander and imagine a different time. People interest me, and what they collect. I started to collect items that I find inspiring- and found another creative outlet in re-purposing vintage items. Whether it is an old door, plate, or frame I love giving it a new life.
